CD release by the renowned poet Mr. Shamsur Rahman

Ms. Shama Rahman is from Bangladesh. She is a brilliant exponent of the songs of Rabindranath Tagore, the first Asian to win the Nobel Prize. Shama uses the Art formto Through her work she emphasizes that people in Bangladesh and India have different identities. People may be Bangladeshis or Indians, they may be Muslims or Hindus, they may be vegetarians or meat eaters, they may be fair or dark but people from both the countries are lovers of Tagore’s Songs, with common language, history of struggle, art forms and culture. She uses these as the building blocks for forging friendship between the two peoples of Bangladesh and India. She has virtually put into operation the concepts of Amartya Sen in his path breaking work, Identity and Violence, where Prof. Sen argues that people cannot be divided by boxing them into one identity. To further consolidate the bonds between the two peoples, to celebrate the 150th Birth Anniversary of Tagore, she will perform at concerts for charities in India who work for rights of destitute children and the rights of the aged (to raise resources for them). Shama relentlessly undertakes these missions zipping in and out of India, in her mission to build bonds of friendship between the people of India and Bangladesh. build abiding friendship between the peoples of Bangladesh and India, especially in the States of Assam, Tripura and West Bengal.
